I [roman numeral one] is a very personal exhibition. For the first time, it shows positions that largely originate from my own small collection and takes up questions that significantly shape my very own relationship to art, collecting, and exhibiting.

The works in I [roman numeral one] are all united by their apparently restrained formal language. Their essence, however, lies within their respective artistic strategies of giving space to questions of attitude by the means of their deliberate renunciation: attitudes towards convention and self-conception, materiality and substance, authorship, appreciation, and one’s own need for recognition.

The exhibition itself has been developed in close collaboration with the participating artists and editors. As a result, I [roman numeral one] is not only the premiere of two wonderful works by Constantin Thun, but also the occasion for the soft-launch of a new version of Daniel Gustav Cramer’s publication Light of the Day. I would like to thank everyone involved in making this exhibition possible, especially Mr. Zierold and Sweetwater, Berlin as well as Franziska Kreuzpaintner for her accompanying text and the great collaboration on the way to this exhibition.
